Top Hikes in Nepal that will leave you awestruck!

Nepal’s sheer diversity, from the tropical jungles of Terai to the freezing summits of the world’s highest peaks, facilitates exciting opportunities for hiking adventures.

Hiking in Nepal mesmerizes you with spectacular views of the Himalayas and hilly terrains, a serene walk along the lush biodiversities of the forests and an unforgettable experience of the local cultures.

Hiking trails are not always easy, but it need not be all that challenging either. With the expertise of the Wild Yak Expeditions Team, your hike is assured to be a pleasant one with proper planning to reach your destination.

With this we bring you some of the best hikes in Nepal you will enjoy exploring:

Shivapuri Hill

Shivapuri, located north of Kathmandu at an elevation of 2563 meters, is the second highest hill in the Kathmandu valley after Phulchowki. It is a heaven for those who enjoy exploring the nature and sightseeing varieties of birds, as it is home to hundreds of species of flora and fauna.

Hike begins near the area’s southern boundary, where the army checkpoint is located. Within two hours, the hike leads to Nangi Gompa, where a monastery is located, over a rocky yet drivable road through pine and cherry woodland. The trail continues steeply uphill for another three hours beyond the monastery, through the oak and rhododendron forest. Likewise, the snow-capped Himalayan such as Ganesh Himal, Langtang-Lirung, Dorji Lhakpa, Mt. Langtang Ri, Ganjala Peak, and many others, as well as Mt. Gaurishanker, are the highlights of this hike.

Due to the amazing terrain, green forest, jungle walk, and Himalayan views, Shivapuri National Park is a major attraction of Shivapuri hiking. Kathmandu valley looks spectacular while summiting up in the national park.

The Budhanilkantha Temple, which is located at the start of the climb, is another attraction of the Shivapuri Hike. The temple is popular among hindu devotees to pay homage to the sleeping Lord Bishnu.

Baghdwar is located at the summit of Shivapuri. This is the source of the Holy River Bagmati, which flows near Pashupatinath, a holy pilgrimage site.

Shivapuri is perfect for a short hike in Kathmandu if you want to experience the hills of Kathmandu while being close to the nature.

Ghorepani Poon Hill

Poon Hill is a hill station in Nepal’s Gandaki Province, at a height of 3,210 meters. Hike to Ghorepani Poonhill is a miniature experience of the lengthier Nepalese mountain treks. In a journey of three days, you’ll pass through scenic villages, lush jungles, clear rivers and rhododendron trees along numerous challenging climbs. The hike also provides a spectacular perspective of Mt. Annapurna, one of the world’s highest peaks.

Pokhara is the best starting point for the hike because the official checkpoint is about 1.5 hours away from the Lakeside. From the hill, you can see some of the largest and most scenic Himalayan ranges, including Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Machhapuchhare, and Annapurna II.

Between September and November, and subsequently March and May, the majority of tourists can be observed climbing the hill. While individuals can still hike in the winter and monsoon, we must be extra cautious and aware of ice weather and slick routes respectively.

Phulchowki

Phulchowki is the highest hill station in Kathmandu Valley at an altitude of 2782m. It is located in Kathmandu’s southeast corner. Phulchowki, which means “hill of flowers,” guides you through a lovely green forest with chirping of birds along the way. Despite the fact that the journey is challenging in comparison to other hiking trails of Kathmandu, the destination enchants you even more.

The view of Kathmandu Valley from Phulchowki Hill Station is stunning. Hiking to Phulchowki allows you to witness the enticing Himalayan ranges like Annapurna and Gauri Shankar. Especially for Kathmandu residents, it’s a perfect escape to unwind from their hectic schedules and engage with nature. Thus, Phulchowki, around 20 kilometers from Kathmandu, is a popular tourist destination for both domestic and international visitors.

Phulchowki holds significance from a religious point of view too because of the presence of Phulchowki Mai (considered as a Hindu goddess). Aside from that, the Godawari Botanical Garden, which is home to a great variety of flowers and plants, is also the highlight of the hike.

Throughout the year, visitors can be seen hiking to Phulchowki. During the winter, the hill station is blanketed in snow, and many people flock there to enjoy it.

Sikles Village

Sikles hike will take you on an amazing and adventurous journey across Nepal’s rich nature and culture. It is one of the largest Gurung villages, lying northeast of Pokhara. You will be absorbed in the best experience of life as you walk through luscious rhododendron forests, picturesque landscapes, and Gurung heritage.

Sikles is a beautifully maintained Gurung village that welcomes you with open arms. The close-ups of Annapurna and Lamjung Himal from the village makes you feel connected to Nepal even more.

Sikles popularity has grown in the recent years, along with the attractiveness of adjacent hikes to Huwu and Khapuche Lake. Hiking from Sikles to Huwu village (a remote village) and to Khapuche lake (considered as the lowest glacier lake) is one of the most exciting things to do here.

The trip to Sikles and the Khapuche Lake is more about discovering nature and culture, as well as appreciating the uniqueness of the location.

Begnaskot

The Begnaskot hike starts from Begnas Lake and concludes in Begnaskot, a hill in Pokhara’s northeast. The hike provides ample opportunities to explore the Pokhara Valley, rich vegetation, diverse culture, and serene lakes. The hike from Begnas-Begnaskot provides a unique glimpse into Nepalese agriculture and culture.

Sundari Danda, located across the road from Begnaskot, offers a breathtaking vista of villages, lush hills, and valleys. Begnaskot temple is situated at the top of the hill station, where worshippers enjoy their time devoted to the deity.

Renowned to be a trekking trail, it is one of Pokhara’s lesser-known hiking trails. So, for those guests who enjoy a tranquil environment, Begnaskot hiking is an ideal journey.

Dhampus Village

Dhampus village is located on the northern edge of the Pokhara valley, at an elevation of 1600 meters. It is a Gurung-dominated ethnic village. As a result, this location provides every visitor with a taste of their traditional way of life and culture, local cuisine and lush vegetation. Dhampus is a good hiking spot located in the Annapurna region, offering views of Annapurna, Fishtail, Gangapurna, and Lamjung Himal. Dhampus’s serene mood and welcoming atmosphere, as well as the sight-seeing of diverse landscapes and unspoiled countryside habitat, are a  captivating sight you wouldn’t want to miss out.

It is a wonderful two-day hike from Pokhara. The trip begins in Phedi, a 30-minute drive from Pokhara’s lakeshore. You may enjoy the calm and serenity to the utmost while walking over the magnificent terraces and amazing mountain panoramas to Dhampus Dada.

Dhampus might be a good starting point for domestic as well as foreign tourists who want to walk and trek more in Pokhara. A trip to Dhampus also invites numerous trekking opportunities as it is the starting point for treks to Annapurna Base Camp, Ghorepani Poon Hill, and the Mardi Himal.

Siraichuli Hill

Chepang communities make up the majority of the population in this area. As a result, visitors in this location can experience the local ethnic group’s lifestyle and culture of the community.

The Chepang Hill Siraichuli hike allows you to immerse yourself in the splendor of deciduous forest, chir-pine and rhododendron trees, a diverse range of flora and fauna, appealing slopes, and breathtaking mountain ranges along the path.
