The WILD YAK Team
Experience, Precision, and Responsibility at Extreme Altitude
WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS is built around people who have spent their lives in the world’s highest mountains. Our team reflects decades of continuous presence in the Alps and the Himalaya—where judgment matters more than ambition, and systems matter more than speed.
The core of WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS is formed by UIAGMA mountain guides and expert Himalayan professionals, Sherpa guides, working within a disciplined operational framework refined over more than 22 years of active high-altitude guiding experience. This depth of experience defines how we plan, operate, and make decisions, whether on climbing in the Alps, remote trekking routes or above 8,000 meters.
Our Sherpa team is among the most accomplished high-altitude groups in the region. Collectively, they have achieved over 100 successful summits of Mount Everest, alongside multiple ascents of K2 and other 8,000-meter peaks. This cumulative experience is not measured only in summits but in thousands of days spent managing risk, acclimatisation, logistics, and human performance in extreme environments.
Co-founder Andrea Sherpa Zimmermann brings a rare combination of elite Himalayan mountaineering and high-performance sport to WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS. As the ninth Swiss woman to summit Mount Everest, with successful ascents of multiple 8,000-meter peaks, her background reflects exceptional technical competence, mental discipline, and long-term commitment to the mountains. A former member of the Swiss Ski Mountaineering Team, she has competed at the highest level across alpine skiing, rowing, ski mountaineering, and trail running. Her achievements include victories at the legendary Patrouille des Glaciers and the CCC of the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc. This depth of experience strengthens WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS’ international and professional foundation, shaping an approach defined by preparation, ethical standards, and measured decision-making.
Co-founder Norbu Sherpa represents decades of leadership at the highest level of Himalayan climbing. With seven successful Everest summits and more than eighteen ascents of different 8,000-meter peaks, his experience is grounded in real-world expedition decision-making under pressure. His approach emphasises clarity, restraint, and responsibility—principles that guide every WILD YAK operation from planning through execution.
As Norbu once put it, with a quiet smile, there was a time when I spent nearly seven months of the year living and sleeping in a tent—so today, sleeping in a real bed still feels like a luxury. That perspective, shaped by years in the high mountains, continues to define WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS’ grounded, disciplined culture.
Defined by Responsibility, Not Scale
WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS operates exclusively with small, focused teams of 4 to 6 climbers, allowing for precise acclimatisation strategies, higher attention per climber, and stronger team cohesion. This structure supports a personalised and authentic experience while maintaining a greater safety margin in complex terrain.
Our systems are designed for reliability and performance. Operations are supported by the latest communication technologies, professional paid weather forecasting, and carefully selected high-quality equipment suited for high-altitude conditions. Consultation for preparation for the hike, peak climbing, altitude trekking, or 8000-meter expeditions. From base camp infrastructure to personal gear integration, every element is chosen to reduce uncertainty and allow climbers to focus fully on movement, rhythm, and recovery in the mountains.
What defines the WILD YAK TEAM is not scale or volume, but depth of experience, of preparation, and of responsibility. We operate with respect for the mountains, for the people who work in them, and for the climbers who entrust us with serious objectives.
This is not about chasing speed or numbers.
It is about doing things properly, with precision, restraint, and the right people by your side.
This is the WILD YAK Way.
