SKI EXPEDITIONS
Climb up, ski down.
Skiing at a very high altitude is a different sensation than climbing high mountains. Whether heli-skiing or ski-touring, skiing is also getting popular in the Himalayas.
Besides climbing, going on a Ski Expedition requires much more endurance, self-reliance, and excellent skiing skills. Most Himalayan mountains are unfavorable for skiing because of vertical flanks, altitudes, and inappropriate snow information. But there are a couple of skiable mountains, such as Putha Himchuli, Mera Peak, and Saribung Peak, which are not technical climbing peaks but have a perfect shape for skiing.
Among the fourteen 8000 mountains, Shishapangma is the only mountain appropriate for skiing from Camp 3 to the deposit camp. However, because of the extreme altitude, excellent skiing skills are required.
We have operated several ski expeditions to Putha Himchuli, Saribung Peak, and Shishapangma. Norbu Sherpa (WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS’ co-founder) has skied on Muztagh Ata and Shishapangma.
