Overview
Historical Reflection of Everest Expedition
Mount Everest, known as Sagarmatha in Nepal and Chomolungma by the Sherpa and Tibetan people, has a fascinating climbing history. The first Everest expedition in 1921 reached 7000 meters from the Tibet side but fell short of success.
On the second attempt, tragically in 1924, climbers Leigh Mallory and Andrew Irvine perished just 500 meters below the Tibet side’s summit, leaving the question of whether they reached the top still unanswered. This mystery has become one of the most intriguing stories in climbing history.
Despite numerous unsuccessful attempts between 1921 and 1952, the summit of Everest was finally conquered on 29 May 1953 by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary, who climbed from the southeast Nepali side. This incredible achievement has since drawn countless climbers to Mount Everest.

Join WILD YAK 2024 EVEREST Expedition for the adventure of a lifetime. Our small Everest expedition group, with a maximum of six members, offers numerous benefits over larger overcrowding groups with 15 or more members.
First and foremost, a small group allows for closer bonds and camaraderie, leading to better teamwork and support. Plus, the flexibility in decision-making and itinerary planning comes in handy when facing inclement weather or changing circumstances in the mountain. As far as possible, we prioritize your preferences while ensuring every member’s safety. Thanks to the personalized guidance from our WILD YAK Expedition Team, you can expect prompt and effective assistance throughout your Everest journey.
With WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS, you’ll experience the perfect balance of adventure and safety.
WILD YAK Team:
Climbing Everest is a technically challenging, physically tiring, and mentally demanding endeavor, and choosing the right expedition Sherpa Team is crucial for a safe and successful climb. Therefore, WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS carefully determines and assigns the best Sherpa Team for your Everest Expedition. Here are some elements that we take into consideration to evaluate and choose the right team for our WILD YAK Everest Expedition:
Experience: Our WILD YAK Expedition Sherpa Team has extensive experience climbing Everest and other significant mountains in the Himalayas. They know the route, conditions, techniques, and risks while climbing Everest. The WILD YAK Team has led many successful ascents on Everest in previous years.
Expertise: Our WILD YAK Expedition Sherpa Team is a highly skilled team of Sherpa climbers who perform best in difficult situations. The WILD YAK Team consists of new-generation dynamic climbers, qualified and trained by the Nepal Mountaineering Association. Last, our WILD YAK Expedition Team is in excellent physical fitness and can withstand the rigors of such expeditions in high altitudes.
Personality: During your Everest Expedition, you will spend much time with the WILD YAK Expedition Sherpa Team. Expedition members must feel comfortable with our Sherpa Team and should establish a good relationship. Our WILD YAK Expedition Sherpa Team is friendly, kind, and supportive.
Communication: Communication and personal compatibility within the team are crucial for a safe and successful expedition. Interaction with the members, responses to queries, and willingness to address their concerns are vital requirements in an expedition. Each Sherpa of our WILD YAK Expedition Team communicates effectively with the member and ensures everyone is on the same page. Indeed, it is also the advantage of being a small group expedition, where the climbing members and the WILD YAK Team have sufficient time to properly understand each other as climbing partners. Some of our WILD YAK Expedition Sherpa Guides speak multiple languages.
Weather reports:
Weather reports are a lifeline for Himalayan expeditions. They help members and the WILD YAK Team prepare for any situation, make informed decisions, and take necessary precautions. With valuable insights into weather conditions, these reports can reduce risk and increase the chances of a successful and safe ascent.
WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS is taking the weather report services from a professional weather forecast provider, not from online weather sites.
At WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS, we emphasize the importance of weather reports and strictly follow our expeditions’ updates.
Communication:
The WILD YAK Team takes every precaution to ensure your safety while climbing Everest. Our communication systems enable constant contact between the members, guides, and the Base Camp (Cook & BC Manager) with satellite phones, radios, and other GPS tracking devices.
In addition, the use of communication devices and climbing updates enhances safety. It provides peace of mind in the event of an emergency, particularly when it comes to weather updates.
WILD YAK’s emergency features:
WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS has well-defined emergency response protocols, such as:
– medical kits with high-altitude medicine
– oxygen with masks and regulators
– Plan for immediate response to medical emergencies in case of altitude sickness, frostbite, or injury.
In addition, our WILD YAK Expedition Sherpa Team is trained to administer first aid and coordinate rapid evacuations if necessary, including high-altitude helicopter evacuations.
WILD YAK’s commitments
We demonstrate a solid commitment to responsible tourism by integrating sustainable practices into our WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS operations.
Since 2014, WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS, in collaboration with our charity organization “The Butterfly Help Project“, has contributed namely to schools constructions, sponsoring Sherpa children who have lost their fathers in the mountains, collaborating with local organizations to preserve their culture, and financially supporting community development initiatives.
In addition, WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS encourages travelers to actively participate in community-based activities and respect local customs and traditions. We highly encourage reusable water bottles, minimizing single-use plastics. We also provide proper waste disposal facilities during the trekking.
Furthermore, WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS greatly emphasize the well-being of porters and the WILD YAK guiding Team. We are committed to treating porters fairly and providing them with better working conditions by limiting the weight carried by each of them. Additionally, we apply a strict policy of fair wages and provide them with proper clothing, footwear, and necessary accessories. Finally, we purchase insurance for each porter’s emergency medical and rescue services on each trip.
Last but not least, we contribute with each of our trip to the projects of “The Butterfly Help Project”.

LOGISTICS
Climbing Sherpa ratio:
Climbing a mountain like Everest can be a risky and intimidating experience. Knowing if you’ll have the proper support and guidance to make your climb safe and enjoyable might be difficult.
Low guide-to-member ratios often compromise safety and individual attention in most other agencies. Inexperienced high-altitude climbers can feel overwhelmed and unsupported, and that’s not how it should be.
WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS offers our Everest expedition members two expert Sherpa guides for each member. This unparalleled 2:1 Sherpa guide-to-member ratio ensures you get all the help and support you need, resulting in a better and safer experience on the mountain.
With WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS, you can be sure that your safety is always a top priority.
Oxygen:
To ensure safety while ascending Everest above Camp: III, our WILD YAK TEAM takes the necessary measures to mitigate risks. Each member will have seven (7) oxygen bottles (4 liters per bottle), a mask, and a regulator. This supplementary oxygen aids breathing and enhances performance, reducing health risks associated with high altitudes. It significantly increases the likelihood of a successful and secure ascent.
Furthermore, each of our experienced WILD YAK expedition Sherpa will also be provided with four (4) oxygen bottles equipped with mask regulators, which enable them to guide effectively, ensuring the safety and well-being of our members.
In Kathmandu:
We stay in superior category hotels – Hyatt Regency and Yak & Yeti, or similar category, on a single room basis, breakfasts included.
The included evening meals are served in excellent restaurants in Kathmandu. WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS has tested each restaurant to meet our client’s requirements best.
Please note that drinks are at each participant’s expense.
During the trekking:
During the trek, we will stay at the lodges recommended by WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS, quaint and traditional mountain guesthouses carefully chosen by WILD YAK representatives.
Please note that booking single rooms in the lodges is not possible. While blankets are provided by the lodge, we suggest bringing your sleeping bag. If needed, you can also rent one from WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS.
While the sleeping rooms may not be heated, rest assured that the dining hall in most lodges will be nicely warmed up every evening. Please remember that the toilet facilities are generally shared, except in select lodges like Namche, Gokyo, and Lukla, where we strive to provide you with attached rooms (subject to availability). These deluxe rooms offer a chance for you to enjoy a well-deserved rest day, complete with a refreshing shower and the convenience of charging your phone and batteries.
Aside from the mentioned places, you’ll find that showers are still possible at other stops along the way, charging a nominal fee of USD 3 to 5. Similarly, mobile and battery charging services are also available (members’ charge).
Regarding culinary delights, the lodges serve a delightful variety of cuisines ranging from Nepalese and Tibetan to continental dishes. It’s the perfect opportunity to indulge in diverse flavors and satisfy your taste buds.
Please note that while most beverages and drinks are not included, we do provide coffee/tea in the morning and upon your arrival at the lodges. Additionally, to complement your tea selection, WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS offers a few snacks at the end of the day.
WILD YAK Everest Base Camp:
WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS has its philosophy regarding the Base Camp: climbing Everest is one of the central parts of this Expedition, comfort, hygiene, and good food at Base Camp are among our priorities.
The WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS Everest Base Camp is comfortable and well-organized. Each participant has a wide individual tent. We equip each tent with an insulating layer, a good mattress, and a pillow.
The dining tent is triple insulated and has heating at certain times of the day. A bucket of water with soap is also next to the dining tent. A solar recharging system is available for mobile phone batteries.
The Base Camp also has all necessary toilet and shower tents facilites.
WILD YAK High Camps:
In the high camps, we encourage team spirit by asking two members to share a tent to support each other and make diligent observations of each other’s form, particularly at night.
We provide essential equipment such as thermal mattresses, utensils, and food.
If necessary, we can also hire sleeping bags for the high-altitude camps.
Our WILD YAK Expedition Team will happily assist you in setting up and dismantling tents and cooking the water.
WILD YAK Camp II:
Camp II of Everest, also referred to as Advanced Base Camp (ABC), is located approximately 6,400 meters (21,000 feet). It is a shared space for Everest and Lhotse climbers and is a crucial acclimatization point and resting spot before tackling higher altitudes. At Camp II, the members and our WILD YAK Team will spend several days. Our WILD YAK Team is committed to setting up a comfortable Camp II.
Camp II is equipped with essential facilities, including a small kitchen, dining tent, and personal sleeping tents with comfortable mattresses. Our dedicated kitchen team will serve delicious hot meals and refreshing drinks, ensuring climbers are well-nourished during their stay at Camp II.
Itinerary for the ascent
The Everest ascent route comprises five camps:
Base Camp at 5300 metres
Camp-I at 5800 metres
Camp-II at 6400 metres
Camp-III at 7300 metres
Camp-IV at 7950 metresOne of the most demanding parts of the ascent is between Base Camp and Camp-I, in the famous Khumbu Ice Fall with its numerous crevasses and seracs.
The day of the summit is definitely the most demanding: it takes 15 to 17 hours from Camp-IV, and back to Camp-IV from the summit. To sum up, climbing Everest is extremely demanding and requires excellent physical condition.

OPTIONAL ADDS ON
Additional oxygen
Our experience says maximizing oxygen flow rates in expeditions is a proven strategy for increasing success rates.
Maximizing your oxygen flow rate can enhance performance and maintain energy levels more efficiently. An extra oxygen bottle also serves as a safety buffer for unforeseen delays, emergencies, or challenging conditions during the climb.
Our expedition members who have maximized their oxygen flows have reported significant improvements in their mental and physical well-being. On summit climbs, they experienced better appetite, increased warmth, heightened strength, and greater enjoyment. By prioritizing oxygen optimization, you can optimize your overall expedition experience.
Contact us to enhance your performance by maximizing your oxygen flow rate.
Note: You can combine different options: maximum oxygen flow with additional Sherpa support in one package at a favorable price to get the best experience of your expedition.
Add a personal climbing Sherpa
Sherpas play a critical role in supporting climbers during expeditions at extreme altitudes. Their expertise, strength, and unwavering commitment make the ascent to the summit more attainable while effectively mitigating the associated risks. Their invaluable contributions enable climbers to fulfill their dreams and conquer the formidable challenges that await them. Adding a personal sherpa contributes thus to a sense of security. It reduces the risk of injuries or physical strain associated with carrying heavy backpacks. It is best for everyone with difficulties recovering from strenuous activity.
By opting for an additional Personal Sherpa service, you’ll gain invaluable support from a dedicated and highly experienced WILD YAK climbing Sherpa.
Your personal Sherpa(s) will accompany you throughout the journey, guiding and assisting you from Base Camp to the summit and back. He will even help carry your necessary personal equipment to the higher camps. You will share a tent with your Personal Sherpa, who will also handle cooking responsibilities, ensuring a proper recovery and comfortable experience.
Our WILD YAK Expedition Sherpa guides are highly skilled professionals and friendly and supportive companions. Having summited Everest and other challenging peaks multiple times, they have the expertise to make your climb successful.
Enjoy a stunning helicopter flight
Suppose you are too tired or not feeling motivated to hike for days after finishing the expedition. In that case, you can take a helicopter service from Base Camp. It is then easier to return to Lukla. There is also the possibility to fly directly to Kathmandu.

Only around 2% of experienced mountaineers attempt to climb Everest without oxygen. The success rate is very low.
Hence, we recommend strongly climbing Everest with oxygen.
There are several advantages to using oxygen to climb Everest:
- You’ll feel less exhausted.

Questions related to my travel
What is the best way to get to Nepal?
Many airlines offer flights to Kathmandu International Airport. Most airlines fly directly to most countries via Doha, Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong and New Delhi.
When should I book my ticket?
If you see a good deal and want to book your flights as early as possible, please ensure that you can change your tickets, or you run the risk of losing your ticket in the event we have to cancel the trip if we don’t meet the minimum number of participants. We remain at your disposal for the booking of your international flights. Feel free to contact us!
Can I get a cheap ticket online?
The risk with these tickets is that you generally have to pay a lot more if you need to make changes to your ticket. We strongly recommend that you use a travel agent for your trip, as they can help you solve many problems. In the long run, they save you money! We use professional travel agents for all our staff and guide bookings. Please do not hesitate to contact us
What if I arrive early or depart late?
On a trip as long as this, we request that you arrive in Kathmandu on the assigned date to ensure your baggage makes it on time and you have time to recover from jet lag before your Himalayan experience. It is hard to catch the group if you arrive late and wait for lost baggage!
If you wish to arrive earlier or depart later to enjoy more from Kathmandu or discover further places in Nepal, we’re happy to help you organise your extended stay.
However, remember that this is a long journey, and people usually want to return home as quickly as possible after the climb finishes. Therefore, we recommend that you take some flexible tickets.
-
Will someone pick me up at the airport?
A WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS representative will be waiting outside Kathmandu airport to meet you on arrival.
-
Are there any entry or visa requirements?
Yes, there are. We kindly refer you to our “Visa Procedure” section on our website. Be sure to have the suggested USD amount in cash for your visa application upon your arrival in Kathmandu. Currently, a 90-day visa costs US$125 for most nationalities.
